Obituary of Arthur Wheaton Gould

Arthur Wheaton Gould was born on June 28, 1931 in Wilmington, NY, to Arthur William and Helen Beatrice (Hazelton) Gould. He passed away on February 17, 2021 in Bradenton, FL at the age of 89 years. Art graduated from Olivet Nazarene College's high school in 1949. He then joined the Air Force. During a 3-Day pass in Denver on March 14, 1951, he married Pearl Vivian Hills of Sioux City, IA. He served in the Air Force for 20 years, being stationed at Eglin AFB in Panama City, an assignment at the Pentagon, Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, Fairchild AFB in Spokane, Rhein Main AFB in Frankfurt, Germany, Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, and retired at Ent AFB in Colorado Springs. After retirement, he worked in a variety of enterprises, always mechanical, creative and entrepreneurial, moving to Homestead, Florida and then Nampa, ID. He loved buying unique vehicles and boats as well as repairing antique clocks and player pianos! Later, he and Pearl moved to Winlock, WA and then to Puyallup, WA where they could be closer to family. They were happily married until Pearl’s death on July 1, 2006 after her long battle with Alzheimer’s. After some time, Art made a trip to see his siblings in Homestead, FL. Along the way, he stopped by Bradenton and surprisingly connected with longtime friend, Arlene (Millspaugh) Grubb and they were joyfully married on May 26, 2007. They lived together until the time of his stroke in November 2019. They endured the struggles of COVID and separation during 2020 and always loved being able to finally see each other! His family took every advantage of Zoom and met together virtually each Tuesday. Art has been deeply loved and will be greatly missed. Art is survived by his wife, Arlene and by four children, Lynette (David) Rodes of Puyallup, WA, Arthur (Carolyn) Gould of Gresham, OR, Wendy (Gary) Ray of Auburn, WA, and Chuck (Lisa) Gould of Denton, TX. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, two sisters, Venetia Chambers and Evangeline (Jack) Stepp and by his brother, Daniel (Judi) Gould. He was preceded in death by Pearl and a sister, Priscilla, and her husband Ray Hawkins, and brother-in-law Bill Chambers.
