Obituary of Betty Jane Secaur

Betty Berquist Secaur was born on July 14, 1925 to Helvig and Victor Berquist in Iron Mountain, Michigan. She passed away on July 9th, 2021 at Blake Hospital in Bradenton, Florida.She is survived by her two stepsons, Craig (Marcia) and his three children, Christopher, Jennifer (Ross) Henderson, and Nicholas and Patrick (Laurie) and their two sons Kevin (Sara) and Robert. She also leaves five great children; Gabe, Samantha, Ondrej, Charlotte and Claire and is survived by her six nieces and nephews; Lance, Lisen, Todd, Gretchen, Thor and Dag Berquist. In 1943, Betty graduated from Iron Mountain High School. She attended Michigan State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics. She did a school lunch internship with the Detroit Board of Education and was employed by them as a lunchroom manager. She was a member of Alpha Xi Delta and the American Dietic Association. She and Ray Secaur were married ion April 28, 1967 in the Mariemont Community Church. She was employed as a supervisor in the school lunch program in Cincinnati, Ohio In 1978, she became the Associate Director of Food Services and retired from that position in 1982. Ray and Betty moved to Bradenton, Florida in 1991. They bought a home in the River Isles Community. Ray was deceased in 2006. Ray was an Elk and Betty became an Elk in 2007. Betty was also a member of the New Floridians and River Isle homeowners association. Her favorite hobby was bridge and she belonged to several bridge organizations. She also enjoyed water aerobics and was a member of the River Isles class for many years. A memorial service for Betty will be held at Riverside Cemetery (3750 US-33, Rockford, OH 45882) at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 14th. The service will be followed by lunch at the Rockford United Methodist Church (202 S. Franklin Street, Rockford, Ohio 45882).
