Obituary of Betty Jo White

Betty Jo White quietly departed life on Sunday, March 6, 2022 at Sarasota Hospice House. The daughter of the late Rev. Joe McLeod and Ruth McLeod (Roberts), she was born into a Florida pioneer family on February 11, 1930 in Myakka City. She attended Myakka City School from 1st thru 11th grade and graduated from Manatee County High School in 1948. Church, music, and playing the piano were central to family life which included fifth Sunday singing at the Tabernacle in Myakka City. She was married to the love of her life, Harold Gene White, for 53 years until his death in 2005. Together, they enjoyed researching family history and travelling to do so. Betty Jo worked for the Manatee County Schools in food service. Her simple life and great faith will forever be cherished by her sons, J. Michael White (Barbara), Harold Mark White, nephew Bill McLeod (DiAnn), and niece Sharon Albritton, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a host of devoted cousins and friends. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 at the New Zion Baptist Church on Saturday, March 19 in Ona, Fla. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Tidewell Hospice, Sarasota.
