Obituary of Richard Louis Gill

Richard L. Gill, 90, of Bradenton died February 22, 2014. He was born in East Deer, Pennsylvania to John and Delia Gill. He moved to Bradenton from Pittsburgh in the 1970’s. Mr. Gill was in law enforcement for over 40 years. He was a Police Officer in Pittsburgh for over 30 years and later worked as a Manatee County Sheriff’s Deputy for five years. He was a member of St. Mary’s and St. Joseph’s Catholic Churches. Mr. Gill was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War. He flew thirty-two combat missions over Europe, and was shot down and captured in Czechoslovakia. He received numerous medals including “The Purple Heart” and “Air Medal”. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. He is predeceased by his wife, Lillian; brothers, Joseph Gill, John Gill, Jr., and Ernest Gill; sisters, Lorraine Cottom and Loretta Kivinski. Survivors include son, Eugene Gill of Galveston, TX and sister, Gloria Sutton of Pittsburgh, PA. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 26, 2014, from 6-8 pm at Griffith-Cline Funeral Home. Funeral service Thursday at 9:30 am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Bradenton, FL. Burial to take place at Sarasota National Cemetery. www.GriffithCline.com
