James Thompson, Sr.

Obituary of James G. Thompson, Sr.

James G. Thompson. 86, a lifetime resident of Manatee County, won the victory and made his transition to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 after a long bout with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife, Geri of 63 years, his daughter Debbie Alford (Randy), his son Jimmy Thompson (Carolyn), 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and an abundance of other family members. He loved to spend time with his family and friends. Some of his greatest times included being surrounded by his family and visiting with neighbors from the tailgate of his truck. He enjoyed reading his Bible, gospel music, and fishing. He loved his church where he was a member of Samoset Baptist Church for 66 years where he served as deacon, Sunday School teacher and on various committees. He was retired from the Manatee County School Board. He was known for being a quiet, gentle, soft-spoken man with a strong faith. The family wishes to thank Natalya Zavhorodaya, RN Case Nurse and Charlotte Garrison, Certified Nurse Assistant from Hospice Home Care for their special care, love, and compassion they showed our family during this difficult time. Services will be held Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Samoset Baptist Church, 3200 15th St. E., Bradenton, FL. Visitation will be at 10:00 AM with service at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Mansion Memorial Park on Ellenton-Gillette Road. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Samoset Baptist Church or TideWell Hospice, Inc.
