Obituary of William F Claflin

William F. Claflin “Bill”, 87, of Bradenton, FL passed away on Wednesday, June 1, 2016. He was born in 1928 in Boston, MA to Harold & Althea Claflin. Bill was raised in West Newton, MA where he met his childhood buddies the “West Newton crowd." Together they maintained their remarkable friendship for the next 80 years. Bill served in the Army from 1951- 1953, when he transferred to the Army Reserve. He worked in Counter Intelligence during the Korean Conflict, and was in Japan, Tokyo for one year. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal and United Nations Medals of Honor. Having taken typing in high school, Bill typed reports that came over the teletype while in the army, and sent out classified information in code. Bill pursued his accounting and financial strengths in college and became a CPA for his career choice, working for many years in the manufactured home industry. Upon retirement, Bill and Ann had the best of both worlds by shared time between New Hampshire and Bradenton, FL for many years before moving to Bradenton in 1997. Bill was predeceased by his loving wife of more than 50 years - Anna B. Claflin; his stepson Richard Dellinger; and his brother Charles R. Claflin and spouse Marion Claflin. He is survived by his nephew David R. Claflin (Sue); five nieces Elizabeth St. Amand (Gary), Barbara Hotchkin (Mike), Susan Newton (Bill), Nancy Morrisson (John), and Marjorie Milman (Jeff); and many more great-nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Bill will be laid to rest by his wife Anna in Cape Cod, MA. A graveside memorial service will be held in Brewster, MA on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. A local service will be held on June 20, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at the Westminster Towers Chapel, Bradenton, FL.
