Obituary of Sandra Knight Kezar

Sandra “Sandy” Knight Kezar, 82, died peacefully on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, in Bradenton, Florida. She was preceded in death by her sisters Elizabeth “Ann Cooper” Knight Schell and Edith “Deedee” Knight Gray. She is survived by her husband, Dennis Kezar; children Laura McKeithen, Hildreth Stafford and Richard Budd; stepchildren Denny, Matthew and Peter Kezar, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sandy was born on July 7, 1938, to Richard Edgar Knight and Grace Earle Hildreth Knight. Raised in Tampa, she graduated from Plant High School in 1956 and then attended Randolph-Macon Women’s College, where she was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority.
Sandy’s love for the arts ran deep throughout her life. In her early 20’s she worked as a museum guide and lecturer at the St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts. Sandy didn’t start painting until she was in her 50’s, but became an incredible artist, specializing in watercolor portraits. She was also skilled as teacher of “writing” religious icons. Working with icons deepened her Christian faith, and she loved sharing the art of writing icons with others. Sandy loved to travel and did so all over the world. Her favorite place to be, though, was in Sewanee, Tennessee. She and Dennis built a house there in the 1990’s. A perfect day for Sandy was curled up on the sofa with her knitting, watching college football and surrounded with sleeping kitties. She was an avid and knowledgeable college football fan. Her devotion and dedication to the Florida Gators was loyal and faithful. She was a voracious reader, from C.S. Lewis to Nero Wolf. As well as a teacher in the arts, Sandy’s love for teaching ran into many areas: she was a yoga instructor, taught classes on both Myers-Briggs and the Enneagram and shared her love for knitting. Her beauty was highlighted in the 1960’s and 70’s when she was a frequent fashion model for the St. Petersburg Times. The Celebration of Life service for Sandy Kezar will be held Thursday, June 10th, 2021, at 3:00 P.M., at Christ Episcopal Church, 4030 Manatee Ave W, Bradenton, FL 34205.
