Obituary of Max R Zittel

Max Zittel, age 98, passed away on May 21, 2022. He was born on September 29, 1923 in Saginaw Michigan to Martin and Amelia Zittel. He served in the army for 3 years during WWII. He was married to Doris Helen Lutz for 64 years. Max worked at General Motors Grey Iron foundry as a timekeeper. After receiving his Master’s in Psychology, he worked at Douglas MacArthur high school as a teacher and counselor including working with special education students teaching them to drive. He also started the student camera club and took many pictures for the yearbooks at several Saginaw area schools. He also did photography as a side job taking many wedding photos. Max was full of life with an exceptional sense of humor, continuously making people laugh. He was an avid golfer with many holes in one and winning multiple local tournaments and championships during his life. Max loved spending many Saturdays’ taking his sons fishing on Lake Huron as well as coaching little league baseball. Max and his wife moved to Bradenton, Florida after retiring to be closer to his family. He deeply loved his family and greatly enjoyed spending time with his granddaughters and great grandchildren including being vested in their many activities. Max was preceded in death by his loving wife Doris (Lutz) Zittel, his sister Marie Zittel Basel and brother-in-law Art Basel. He is survived by his sons, Fred Zittel of Osprey, FL; Steve Zittel (Patty) of Palmetto, FL; nephews Dean Basel and Mark Basel (Florence) of Sun City, Arizona; the mother of his grandchildren Gail Zittel of Sarasota, FL; his Grand-daughters Lisa Zittel Graber (Andy) of Sarasota, FL and Kelly Zittel Drew (Josh) of Bradenton, FL and his 4 beautiful Great Grandchildren Briella and Adelyn Graber and Jaxon and Bennett Drew. There will be a memorial service scheduled at a later date.
