Obituary of Constance Mary Wheeler

Constance Mary Wheeler passed away September 29, 2022 as Hurricane Ian reached land. One might say it took a category four hurricane to move her on to her final rest. She was preceded in passing by her beloved husband and best friend of 68 years, William R. Wheeler. She is survived by her Daughter and Son-In-Law, Caroline and Bob Kurz and her Son and Daughter-in-Law Bill and Barb Wheeler. Connie also leaves four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. In addition she is survived by her Sister, Francis Granger, her partner Larry Morrell and five Nieces and nephews. Connie was a member of Lady Queen of Martyrs church of Whitfield. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Connie loved to sew and was a professional tailor working at Belk Lindsey for many years and doing alterations and repairs and making baby clothes and so forth for family and friends. She passed along this love of all things needle and thread to Caroline and the two worked together at Belks doing alterations for several years. She was always available for advice or troubleshooting a sewing issue Connie was a wonderful Mother and world class Grandmother called Nana by her Grandchildren and great grandchildren. As her life was coming to an end her great grandson asked to go see her. When told she will not be able to talk to him or remember who he was he said, “that’s OK I just want to hold her hand.” Connie’s love of family and her sense of humor will be missed by all who knew her. She could give as good as she got, always ready with a quick reply when joking and enjoying the company of family and others. Many of her humorous remarks are shared among family member when reminiscing about Nana. She will be laid to rest next to her husband Bill at Sarasota National Cemetery when the facility has recovered from the hurricane. A celebration of life will be held at a date not yet determined.
